A 40-year-old diesel supplier, Felix Osareme, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing N790,000 cash in Apapa.
Osareme is facing a two-count charge of false pretence and stealing.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Obongha, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on January 9, 2019 at about 11:30am at Agboju in Apapa.
“The defendant, with the intent to defraud, obtained the sum of N540,000 from one Christopher Gift and N250,000 from one Friday Ogbe. The total being N790,000 with the pretence of supplying diesel, a representation he knew to be false,” Obongha said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant stole the cash of N540,000 property of Christopher Gift and N250,000 from Friday Ogbe.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 314 and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
The surety is required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case till July 12, 2019 for mention.
