The Abuja Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control for the West and Central African Region (Abuja MoU) has welcomed the Democratic Republic of Congo as its 19th full member state.
DR Congo deposited a Letter of Acceptance of the memorandum in Abuja MoU Secretariat on Wednesday.
The Abuja MoU on Port State Control for the West and Central African Region is one of the 9+1 MoUs established in October 1999 with a clear mandate and objective aimed at the elimination of substandard ships in the region.
“The Secretary General of Abuja Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control for the West and Central African Region, Captain Sunday Umoren, on behalf of the Chairman of Abuja MoU, Hon. Ebrima Sillah and the 18 full member States of Abuja MoU comprising Angola, Benin, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, The Gambia and Togo heartily receives the Democratic Republic of Congo to the Abuja MoU into their midst,” a statement issued by the Secretariat of the Abuja MoU said.
