An Apapa Magistrate’s Court on Thursday granted N20,000 bail to a driver, Kelechi Chukwu (29) for allegedly damaging vehicles and driving without driver’s license.
Chukwu is facing a three-count charge of reckless driving, damaging other vehicles and driving without driver’s license.
The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on February 22, 2020 at about 1am along Old Ojo Road, Junction Bus-Stop.
“The defendant being the driver in charge of Toyota Sienna with registration number EPE 256 FJ drove same on the public highway in a dangerous and reckless manner, having no regard to all the circumstances of the case including the nature, condition, the use of the highway and the amount of the traffic which usually was at the time.
“The defendant caused a serious damage to the said Toyota Sienna car property of one Duru Jovita Ozioma and also caused damage to Mini-Bus registration number KRD 592 XS property of one Kelechi Nwachukwu.
“The defendant drove the said Toyota Sienna without driver’s license,” Aigbokhan said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 19, 20(1) and 12 of the Road Traffic Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2012.
Magistrate Olorunfemi Oluwatope granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety. The surety must be a relative to the defendant and furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the matter till March 16, 2020 for mention.
