The Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Sambo, on Thursday commended his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi for his unflinching commitment towards ensuring actualisation of the standard gauge railway “to enable Nigerians enjoy the dividends of democracy”.
Speaking during a visit to the railway headquarters in Lagos on Thursday, Sambo stated that he was impressed with the level of progress recorded on the project.
“My gratitude goes to my predecessor for all he has done while in office. Even his enemies admitted to his commitment towards achieving success in the rail sector. My predecessor left an indelible mark. Although we have limited time, we have vowed to continue where the former minister stopped,” Sambo said.
He said the Federal Government is targeting a stronger railway system for the country, especially as the current administration winds down gradually.
“We have been receiving support from the management of the railway, but we hope it will be sustained to enable us to create an enabling environment for business to strive and reduce time of doing business,” he said.
“I wish the incoming government will continue with the progress in the rail sector which we are all proud of presently.”
