Factional National Secretary of the National Council of Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents (NCMDLCA), Benneth Ndee, has charged the Nigeria Customs Service to “revisit to the benchmark regime of cargo.
Ndee, in a statement sent to SHIPS & PORTS DAILY said that it is necessary for NCS to return to the use of benchmark in customs documentation “to stem the highhandedness and unbridled extortion of hapless agents by its field officers.”
The Festus Ejiofor- led NCMDLCA scribe, while commending the present administration of the Nigeria Customs Service for the efforts it has put into providing good welfare package for its staff, expressed disappointment in customs officers’ high tendency for corruption.
He said customs officers who extort money from importers and agents are “wicked and ungodly.”
Ndee urged the management of NCS to put a check on its field officers with a view to facilitating trade while “meeting its ambitious revenue target.”
