Former Chairman, Tin Can Island Port chapter, Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Kayode Farinto has been elected as the association’s National Publicity Secretary.
Farinto was elected unopposed after his opponent, Ejike Augustine Metu was disqualified from contesting the election for not meeting up with the electoral requirements.
At the end of voting at the ANLCA national secretariat in Lagos yesterday, Farinto was 38 votes to emerge as the association’s new spokesman.
He takes over from Obicee Okonkwo who did not seek reelection for a second term.
Chairman, Association Electoral Commission (ASECO) of ANLCA, Alhaji Babatunde Abdulazees who conducted the election in the presence of some members of the association’s Board of Trustees (BOT), said Farinto having met all the requirements for the election was the only eligible and qualified candidate for the position.
In his acceptance speech, Farinto promised to rebrand the association especially in the area of information dissemination.
“We should be talking about development not even growth. The image of ANLCA must be rebranded from what it used to be. I know that we don’t normally have a very good relationship between ANLCA and the press. I assure you that this time around; it is going to be a different thing. I am a man of the press.
“Our various chapter PROs must go on course. They should be able to tell the various customs brokers at their chapter what is obtainable especially on government policies.
“It goes a long way to sensitize the people as at what is needed and expected of them in the industry.
Speaking on how he felt being the only eligible contestant, Farinto said, “I fill as if the challenge is not much. I want a situation where people will come out and there will be contest. We have procedure in ANLCA and there are pre-requisites. The pre-requisite is that you must be a director of a company registered by the board of customs and where this is not met you will not be allowed to either contest or be voted for,” he said.
