FG Announces Plan to Revamp Apapa, Tin Can Island Ports

Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola

The Federal Government has announced plans to revamp ageing port facilities across the country, starting with Apapa and Tin Can Island Ports as pilot projects.

This initiative was revealed in Lagos on Tuesday by Adegboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, during a Stakeholders’ Forum on the establishment of a National Single Window (NSW) system.

Oyetola said the initiative is part of a broader effort to modernise Nigeria’s maritime sector and boost its competitiveness in global trade.

The Minister said the revamping of the key ports is intended to address long-standing infrastructure challenges and improve operational efficiency.

While details of the specific upgrades were not provided, the Minister also emphasised the importance of private-sector participation in developing greenfield ports and other infrastructure projects, suggesting a potential avenue for funding and expertise in the port modernisation effort.
