President Goodluck Jonathan last Monday approved the composition and appointments of the chairmen and members of governing councils and boards of 67 Federal Government agencies, including the NSC, Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN), Oron, and the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC).
Other members of the new NSC Board include Alhaji Sani Dauda, Alhaji Bala Buhari and Honourable Paul Anikwe.
MAN Oron Board has Chief Mike Abiotemere as Chairman, while Abdulmumini Yunusa, Chief Oliver Agbasoga and Mr. Reuben Aggo will serve as members.
Former Acting National Chairman of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Kawu Baraje is new Board Chairman of the NRC, with Honourable Iquo Minima, Squadron Leader M. Ashu (rtd), Honourable Ibrahim Mohammed Gimi, Emma Ogbu and Austin Nwachukwu appointed as members.
The new NSC Board Chairman, Salihu Ibrahim, started his career in the Army as a boy soldier in 1956, and rose through the ranks.
Prior to his retirement in 1993, he was the Commandant, Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA) (1988 – 1990), and Chief of Army staff (COAS) (1990 -1993).
After his retirement, he was appointed a Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, University of Ilorin.
He has bagged many honorary degrees and several decorations, including Fellow, Higher War College, Egypt; United Nationas (UN) Medal – Meritorious Service, Congo; and the National honor of the Commander of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (CFR).
He is on the board of several companies and presently the Chairman of International Energy Insurance Plc.
