The importers Association of Nigeria (IMAN), the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) and Concerned Accredited Freight Forwarding Associations (CAFFA) have supported the appointment of Col. Hameed Ali as the Comptroller General of Customs.
In a joint press conference yesterday, the groups said, “That the appointment of the new Comptroller-General of Customs is hereby endorsed by the importers and the freight forwarding practitioners under the regulation and control of Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria.”
CAFFA is made up of National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Association of Registered Freight Forwarders in Nigeria (AREFFN), National Council of Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents (NCMDLCA) and National Association of Air Freight Forwarders and Consolidators (NAFFAC).
NAGAFF Founder, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam said the groups were ready to work with the new Customs helmsman.
“If we say Ali must not be there, we are not adding value to the system. Also, we must not cry more than the bereaved. If the President decides to bring someone from the outside, we cannot continue to question his power because he is there to take decisions,” he said.
IMAN had also said it supports the collection of the controversial practitioners operating fee by CRFFN.
