Global seaborne container trade increased by 5.8% year-on-year in January, according to Container Trades Statistics. Of the 49 trade routes analyzed, 32 recorded growth while 17 saw declines.
The most significant downturns occurred in exports to North America (-7.6%) and sub-Saharan Africa (-1.1%). However, the strongest growth was observed in total exports from the Middle East and Indian Subcontinent, which rose by 12.4%, followed by Far East exports, which increased by 8.3%.
On the import side, Europe led the growth with a 12.6% year-on-year increase, while sub-Saharan Africa followed with a 10.2% rise.
The overall positive performance highlights the resilience of global container trade, despite isolated declines in key routes.
