The Liberia-flagged oil/products LR tanker MT Almi Spirit was boarded by six pirates in the Strait of Singapore yesterday, the Director General of Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), Admiral Datuk Ahmad Puzi Ab Kahar, disclosed this via Twitter.
The six men boarded the 2007-built tanker at around 7 a.m. local time in Indonesian waters, while the vessel was en route to Tanjung Pelepas, Malaysia.
The crew of the 105,571 dwt tanker raised the alarm following the boarding, after which the six attackers fled the ship.
There have been no reported injuries to the crew, and Almi Spirit resumed the voyage to Tanjung Pelapas with its cargo intact.
MMEA will hold a press conference on the incident at 1:30 p.m. local time.
Almi Spirit is owned and operated by the Greek shipping company Almi Tankers S.A.
