Hong Kong April box volumes down 9%

The Port of Hong Kong continues it’s downward trajectory, with throughput falling 9.3% to 1.58million TEU in April, led by a further 9% fall in volumes at the main Kwai Tsing terminals to 1.25million TEU and exacerbated by a sharper drop in the non-Kwai Tsing terminals compared to the month before.

These terminals handled 10.3% fewer boxes in April with throughput falling to 330,000 TEU from 368,000 TEU in April the year before.

Volumes have been falling at the port in every month since the start of the year and year-to-date, throughput is down 11.2% at 5.92million TEU.
