Ibrahim Maikaba officially assumed office on Monday as the 32nd Commissioner of Police for the Western Ports Command, Apapa, Lagos.
He succeeds Commissioner of Police Olanrewaju Olawale Ishola, who has been redeployed to serve as the Commissioner of Police in the Lagos State Command.
Maikaba began his distinguished career in the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1994.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Bayero University, Kano, and has attended numerous training courses during his three decades in service. These include the Advanced Detective Course, Tactical Leadership and Command Course at the Police Staff College, Jos, Strategic Leadership Training by the Department for International Development (DFID), and various community policing courses.
Throughout his career, Maikaba has held several key administrative, operational, and investigative positions. He served as Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in both the Kano and Katsina State Police Commands, Commander of the Joint Border Patrol in Maje, Kebbi State, and Seme, and led the Inspector-General’s Special Taskforce on Petroleum and Illegal Bunkering at Force Headquarters, Abuja. He has also held roles as Deputy Commissioner of Police in multiple capacities, including at the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), the Zonal Criminal Investigation Department (Zone 1 Kano), and Operations in Kaduna and Delta State Commands. Additionally, Maikaba has served on United Nations peacekeeping missions in Kosovo and Sudan, where he earned two UN commendation medals for his outstanding service.
With extensive experience across various formations and units nationwide, Maikaba is recognized as a versatile and highly skilled senior officer.
During the handover ceremony, CP Maikaba called on maritime stakeholders and the business community to provide him with full support and cooperation. He pledged to leverage his vast experience to enhance security and trade facilitation at the nation’s ports.
