The Assistant Controller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Lagos State, Musa Maza, has said officials of the agency caught in corrupt practices will not be spared.
Maza said the agency was also ready to work with the police to keep Lagos free of terrorist attacks.
The immigration boss spoke during a meeting with the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2, Bala Hassan, on Wednesday.
He said, “Corruption is a cankerworm that has eaten deeply into our fabrics as a nation. It is my resolve to completely purge my officers of all corrupt practices in line with the anti-corruption campaign of the present administration. I will fish out the bad elements, and flush them out of the system.”
Maza appealed to the AIG to assist the agency in its duties through regular intelligence and information sharing.
He said he believed the synergy would deepen the relationship between the two security agencies and help to protect lives and property.
The AIG, on his part, said the police was working to improve on its image.
Hassan, who claimed to have dismissed two policemen after they received marked notes as bribes, said the police would continue to take issues of discipline seriously.
While urging Nigerians to report officers demanding bribes, the AIG promised to distribute pamphlets containing the contact details of Divisional Police Officers and Commissioners of Police in the zone.
He said, “I have particularly instructed my officers to eschew corrupt acts and abuse of human rights. Soon, everybody will have access to the phone numbers of their DPOs and CPs to make reporting of these cases easier.”
