Following the declaration of the Kaduna Inland Container Depot (ICD) as port of origin and destination by the Federal Government, the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) said it is not resting on its oars to ensure that other ICD’s are so gazzeted as port of origin.
Executive Secretary of the Council, Hassan Bello who gave the assurance while speaking in a chat with SHIPS & PORTS DAILY disclosed that two other ICD’s located in Kano and Funtua will soon be gazzeted.
Bello said the Council is already working with the concessionaires to ensure that all needed structures that would make the government declare both ICD’s as port of destination and origin are put in place.
“We are working with the concessionaires so that they will bring up development in the ICDs after which they will be so declared,” he said.
Bello described as a milestone achievement the declaration of the Kaduna ICD as port of origin even as he called on other concessionaires to emulate such.
“The declaration of Kaduna ICD, is a milestone. It is a model which others should emulate. Soon we would have ICD’s in Kano and Funtua similarly declared. The concessionaires in Funtua are already working with the Nigerian Railway Corporation,” he said.
