In the wake of the recent bomb scare in parts of Lagos State, the Tin-Can Island Port Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has deployed stringent security measures at its facilities.
As the command last week beefed up security at the gates, restricting access into Customs House, several persons, mostly Customs agents, who could not readily explain their mission there, were stranded at the gates.

Speaking on the development, the Customs Public Relations Officer of the command, Deputy Superintendent of Customs Chris Osunkwo, told SHIPS & PORTS DAILY that much attention needs to be placed on security at the ports in view of the insecurity in the country.
Osunkwo stated that the heightened state of security at the gates of the command is aimed at restricting access and controlling the number of persons entering the complex.
Most of the persons calling at the Tin-Can Island Port Customs House, according to him, are not genuine agents.
“It is only natural to beef up security when you hear cases of attacks. We need not wait for the attack before we tighten up security,” Osunkwo said.
