A 30-year-old man, identified as John Samson, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly posing as a Navy personnel in Apapa.
Samson is facing a one-count charge of impersonation.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Kolade Tedunjaye, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on November 2, 2018 at about 5pm at Apapa.
“The defendant impersonated himself as a Navy personal by wearing Nigeria Navy Blue Rig uniform,” Tedunjaye said.
According to her, the offence is punishable under section 169 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.
Magistrate O.S Abioye granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must be gainfully employed before and furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
One of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant.
He adjourned the matter till December 4, 2018 for mention.
