A 37-year-old man, Victor Sunday, who allegedly stole 10 pieces of anchor hooks valued at N50, 000.00 was on Monday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate Court, Lagos on a three-count offence of stealing, falsehood and entering the port with fake Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) pass.
The prosecutor, Alexander Esebamen told the court that the accused committed the offence on October 27, 2016.
He said that the incident occurred at about 0230hrs at ENL Consortium Terminal at the Lagos Port Complex, Apapa where the accused surreptitiously gained access into the port without the NPA pass and disguising as a dockworker.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 285 (1), 378 (1) and 398 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mrs Osho Adebiyi adjourned the case till Nov. 15 for trial.
In a separate development, the Magistrate Court at Kirikiri, Lagos has adjourned till December 9, 2016 the case involving one Ayodele Michael who was accused of breaking into a container at APM Terminals inside the Lagos Port Complex, Apapa.
The matter, which was transferred to at Kirikiri for quick discharge was brought up for mention at Kirikiri Magistrate last Friday.
The Prosecutor, Mr Alexander Esebamen reminded the Magistrate, His Honour, G.L Hotepo that the case was transferred from Apapa Magistrate Court for trial and has two witnesses present in court. But the Magistrate ruled that the matter had to be mentioned at first then another day would be fixed for trial.
The 34-year-old Ayodele Michael was earlier arraigned at the Apapa Magistrate Court 2 by the police for allegedly stealing goods worth N500,000.
He was arraigned on a three-count charge which bordered on criminality.
The allegations stated that Ayodele Michael, on the 25th day of July 2016 at about 0630hrs at APM Terminals, Apapa Port in the Apapa Magisterial District, broke and entered into container number MRKU-3114274 with the intent to commit felony therein and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 285(f) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Also on the same date, time and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District, Ayodele was accused of stealing from container number MRKU-3114274, one (1) big carton of Slidenafit Citrate tablet containing 1,200 packets of Hygra drugs valued at N500, 000, thereby committing an offence punishable under section 285(1) (5)(f) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The third charge reads: “That you, Ayodele Michael, ‘m’, on the same date, time and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did enter into Apapa Wharf without the Nigerian Port Authority Ticket and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 398 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.”
He pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
The Magistrate, Mrs Osho Adebiyi granted him a bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
