A 42-year-old man, identified as Olajuwon Igbekun, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly fighting policewomen and destroying the windscreen of a tricycle in Apapa.
Igbekun is facing a four-count charge of assault, breach of peace and unlawful destruction.
The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on October 4, 2019 at about 5pm at Olajumola Street, Olodi-Apapa.
“The defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by fighting policewomen in the street.
“The defendant unlawfully assaulted one woman Sergeant Goodnews Victor and woman Sergeant Tijani Hamza.
“The defendant hit woman Sergeant Goodnews Victor with a fist blow on her nose which cause her harm and unlawfully destroyed the windscreen of a tricycle valued at N16,000 property of one Olasunkomi Aweda,” Bassey said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 168(1)(d), 263(1), 173 and 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to all the charges brought against him.
Magistrate Iyabo Ayilara granted him N50,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties are required to furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the matter till October 17, 2019 for mention.
