Man in court for threatening to kill lawyer

A 37-year-old man, Yovo Stanley, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly threatening to kill an Apapa-based lawyer at Abule-Ado, Lagos.

Stanley, an immigrant from Togo, is facing a one-count charge of threat to kill. He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Inspector Julius Babatope, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on January 19, 2020 at about 9pm at Cele Kinde Street, Abule-Ado, Lagos.

“The defendant threatened to kill one Barrister Bosah Eric Nnamdi with a cutlass by chasing him all round with same,” Babatope said.

According to him, the offence is punishable under section 56 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

Magistrate Olukayode Kadiri granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety in like sum. The surety is required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case till January 27, 2020 for mention.
