A nascent maritime group, the Anambra Maritime Practitioners Association (AMPA), has thrown its weight behind Senator Chris Ngige in the forthcoming Anambra gubernatorial election billed for November this year.
A statement signed by the National President of the group, Chief Dom Obi, a copy of which was sent to SHIPS & PORTS DAILY said that the group support for Ngige is hinged on the reasons of state of insecurity as well as infrastructural and institutional decay.
On state of insecurity, the group noted that during the short stay of Ngige as Governor in 2003 there was relative security in the state.
“It is worthy of note that there was tight security when Dr. Chris Ngige was Governor of Anambra State. It was a time when our people returned and stayed in Anambra without fear and also feel at home because there was security. Where were the kidnappers when Dr. Chris Ngige was Governor? He made the state too hot for them to operate in and naturally, they fled to other areas. He had done it before, he can do it again,” the statement said.
The group added that the Ngige deserves a return to the seat of power in Anambra State, because according to them, his short stay as governor equally brought a lot of infrastructural and institutional development to the state.
It listed some of Ngige’s giant strides to include payment of backlog of arrears for pensioners, teachers and other workers; free education and resuscitation of the state’s tertiary institution; overhauling of general hospitals as well as medical centres, amongst others.
And as part of it support for Ngige, the group said it will organize, interactive sessions between the governor and Anambrarians; fund raising dinner; launching of campaign vehicles and tour of the state’s 326 wards; state rally and media promotions.
