The Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporation and Government-Owned Companies (SSASCGOC) and the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) have applauded the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, and the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Abubakar Dantsoho, for addressing the long-standing issue of employee stagnation within the NPA.
This breakthrough was achieved through the approval to conduct promotion examinations for union members, a move praised in a letter signed by SSASCGOC President, Comrade Akinola Bodunde.
In the letter, Comrade Bodunde expressed gratitude for several positive changes: “We specifically appreciate the increase in productivity bonuses, provision of end-of-year welfare items to staff, and the review of the Financial Guide to the Condition of Service, which has comprehensively addressed our members’ concerns amidst inflationary trends.”
He further assured the management team of the unions’ commitment to enhancing productivity and achieving Key Performance Indicators outlined in the Presidential and Ministerial Performance Bond.
Reacting to the commendation, Dantsoho credited the swift resolution of workers’ issues to the support of Minister Adegboyega Oyetola and the collaboration of the NPA executive management team. He also lauded Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, President-General of MWUN and Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), for his dedication to maintaining industrial harmony.
Dantsoho added: “We assure workers of continuous improvements as their enhanced productivity continues to yield dividends for the national economy.”
This progress aligns with recent reports from the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS), which highlighted trade surpluses in Q2 and Q3 2023, driven by improved export transactions facilitated through the Nigerian Ports Authority.
The unions’ commendation underscores the positive strides in employee welfare and the operational efficiency of the NPA.
