The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has announced the passing of one of its Trustees, Comrade Wasiu Keshinro, who died on Monday, December 2, 2024, after a brief illness.
In a statement released by the union’s Head of Media, Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, Keshinro was remembered as a courageous and dedicated dockworker whose contributions left an indelible mark on the Union.
“He was a courageous fighter with a cause, a dogged dockworker who came, saw, and conquered,” Ikemefuna said.
Described as tough, resilient, and loyal, Keshinro served as a Trustee of the MWUN National Headquarters, where he demonstrated exceptional diligence and commitment. He was highly regarded for his professionalism and outstanding qualities, which earned him admiration among his peers and subordinates.
Known for his soft-spoken nature and warm demeanour, Keshinro was beloved by many. He had a sense of humor and a calm presence, often offering a gentle smile that endeared him to colleagues.
He began his career as a key figure in the Dockworkers Branch before being elected as a Trustee at the Union’s national level.Comrade Wasiu Keshinro is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
MWUN President-General, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, and the union’s leadership expressed deep sorrow over his passing, noting the significant void he leaves behind.
“We pray that the Almighty Allah grants him eternal rest and provides his family with the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss,” the Union’s statement concluded.
