A 21-year-old motorboy, Udeme Friday, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a laptop and other items inside a parked truck in Apapa.
Friday is facing a two-count charge of stealing and breach of peace.
The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on December 22, 2018 at about 10am at Navy campsite, Kirikiri, Apapa.
“The defendant stole one Hp Laptop and charger valued at N45,000, one bluetooth ware valued at N10,000, four pair of jeans trousers valued at N15,000, shirts and underwear nickers valued at N15,000. All totalling N85,000 property of one Joseph Obi,” Bassey said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant conducted himself in a disorderly manner to cause breach of peace by unlawfully entering into a parked Mack truck at Navy campsite.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 287 and 168(a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
The Investigative Police Officer (IPO) said the defendant was seen wearing the clothes of the complainant. He told the court that the wears were recovered from the defendant except laptop and bluetooth.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
Magistrate, A.S Okubule granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one responsible surety.
The surety, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case till January 21, 2019 for mention.
