Nigeria Customs Service’s Federal Operations Unit, Zone A Ikeja, Lagos, has intercepted contraband goods worth N3.6 billion.
The haul includes 150 cartons of bulletproof jackets (worth N1.687 billion), 989kg of cannabis sativa, and 5,229 cartons of expired drugs.
Other seized items include premium motor spirit, foreign parboiled rice, used vehicles, sugar, and poultry products.
Customs Area Controller Kola Oladeji announced the seizures in Ikeja on Thursday, stating that the bulletproof jackets were intercepted along the Ijebu Ode-Sagamu Expressway in Ogun state. He emphasised that individual importation of military wares is prohibited under Schedule 4 of the Customs Common External Tariff (CET), and end-user certificates from the Office of the National Security Adviser are required for controlled items.
The cumulative duty paid value of the seized goods amounts to N3.6 billion, with interceptions taking place at various times and locations within the South-Western States.
