Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, on Wednesday, in London unveiled the name and logo of Nigeria’s new national carrier, Nigeria Air.
Speaking at the ongoing Farnborough International Airshow, Sirika lamented that Nigeria used to be a dominant player, through Nigeria Airways, but not anymore.
He noted that the national carrier is private sector led and driven and not a social service.
The minister disclosed that the Federal Government will not own more than five percent of the airline, neither will it be involved in running the airline or deciding who runs it, stressing that the investors will have full responsibility for this.
Sirika said 81 routes (domestic, regional and international) have been identified for the airline out of more than a thousand considered.
Nigeria Air is scheduled to commence operations in December 2018.
