The Nigerian Navy continues to record victories in the war against oil theft.
In the latest onslaught, the Navy has impounded a tanker named Pauline and arrested the ship’s ten-man crew over alleged oil theft.
The tanker was laden with over 360,000 litres of automotive gas oil (diesel) which is suspected of having been stolen.
The Captain of the Pauline, according ton the Navy, was unable to tender relevant documents when the ship was boarded.
The vessel was impounded offshore of Brass River in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State by a naval patrol operating from the Forward Operating Base at Formoso.
The Operations Officer of the Central Naval Command, Commodore EO Enemor, explained in a statement that the arrest of the ship and crew was effected last Friday.
“The vessel lacked the Nigerian Ports Authority bunkering permit, the certificate of registration with the Joint Military Task Force and the approval for the movement of petroleum products by the Naval Headquarters,” the statement said.
