Concerned about incessant complaints over officers intercepting containers on the highway, newly appointed Controller, Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘A’ of the Nigeria Customs Service, Comptroller Dahiru Umar has assured that the unit under his watch will no longer arrest containers on the highways.
Addressing some chapter executives of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) led by the Zonal coordinator, Western Zone, John Ofobike who paid a courtesy visit to his office in Lagos on Wednesday, Umar said rather than intercept containers on the highway, he will liaise with the commands within his jurisdiction to stop offensive imports from exiting the ports.
According to him, on assumption of office, he appraised the operational strategy of his unit and has decided to re-strategize its mode of operation part of which includes putting a stop to intercepting of containers on the highways.
He pleaded with ANLCA to endeavour to weed out miscreants from its fold saying that they are the ones causing integrity problems for the association.
He commended ANLCA for its steadfastness in its collaboration and synergy with the Service even as he urged them to sustain the cordial working relationship with the unit to help it achieve the mandate of the CGC in realizing more revenue for the federal government.
Responding, Ofobike, assured the Controller of maximum support and cooperation of ANLCA with the unit it to achieve its mandate.
