The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced the cancellation of the Computer-Based Test (CBT) exam for officers at the rank of Superintendent of Customs (SC) who were seeking promotion to Chief Superintendent of Customs (CSC).
This decision, effective as of Tuesday, was made due to various irregularities and instances of malpractice reportedly observed during the examination process.
According to an internal memo dated October 15, 2024, the examination initially conducted on August 20, 2024, has been nullified.
The NCS has provisionally set a new examination date for November 8, 2024, to be held at designated centers in Lagos and Abuja.
The memo, titled “Cancellation of the 2024 Promotion Examination for the Rank of Superintendent of Customs,” outlines the reasons for this decision, stating, “The Management of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) wishes to notify all eligible candidates for promotion to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Customs (CSC) that the 2024 Computer Based Test (CBT) held on Tuesday, 20 Aug 2024 has been cancelled.”
The NCS attributed the cancellation to technical and administrative challenges that compromised the exam’s integrity.
“This decision was made after a thorough review and investigation of the examination process, which uncovered significant technical and administrative challenges that compromised the reliability of the exercise,” the memo continued.
The Deputy Comptroller General of Customs, Human Resources, G.A. Itohoh, who signed the memo, also stated that a detailed schedule of activities for the exam day will be released soon.
