In a bid to enhance capacity building and strengthen its operations, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is set to establish a specialised university in Badagry, Lagos state.
This milestone project, slated for completion before 2027, will provide cutting-edge training for officers and stakeholders in West and Central Africa.
The NCS university will offer tailored programs to enhance trade enforcement, revenue generation, and customs expertise. This move is expected to bolster the service’s performance and cement its position as a leading customs administration in the region.
The announcement was made by Leke Abejide, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Customs and Excise, during an oversight visit to Customs formations in the FCT.
He also assured that the committee was ready to give the service every budgetary support to upgrade the Customs Command and Staff College to international standard.
He said the proposed NCS university is poised to become a hub for excellence in customs education and training, supporting the service’s vision to be a world-class customs administration.
He also said that the 11- storey corporate headquarters of the Service commissioned in 2023 by former President Buhari will soon be put to use.
Abejide praised the service’s efforts in revenue generation and corporate social responsibility, particularly at the Customs Hospital in Karu, which he described as the best paramilitary hospital in the country.
