The Forward Operating Base (FOB) Escravos of the Nigerian Navy has announced the destruction of six illegal refining sites in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Warri, the Commanding Officer of FOB Escravos, Navy Captain Ikenna Okoloagu, said the operation was carried out in Obodo Omadino Community between 3 and 24 September.
He explained that the success was the result of coordinated actions based on credible intelligence, undertaken as part of Operation Delta Sanity II.
According to Okoloagu, the operation was consistent with the strategic directive of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ikechukwu Ogalla, to eliminate criminal activity within Nigeria’s maritime environment.
The navy seized approximately 11,550 litres of stolen crude oil during the raids. The product had been concealed in 52 dug-out pits and seven polythene sacks.
In addition, one pumping machine and about 22 yards of hose were recovered from the dismantled sites.
Okoloagu reaffirmed the navy’s commitment to safeguarding the nation’s waterways and supporting the wider fight against oil theft and economic sabotage.
