Nigerian Shippers’ Council ( NSC) has launched the operational manual for inland dry ports.
The launching took place in Jos, Plateau State on Thursday.
While addressing stakeholders at the sensitization and launch, NSC Executive Secretary/CEO, Akutah Pius said the council has played a pivotal role in ensuring the development of inland dry ports across the designated locations in the country.
He said the Jos Inland Dry in Heipang is one of the dry port projects being facilitated by the Nigerian Shippers’ Council to bring shipping facilities to the shippers in the hinterlands, create employment opportunities and accrue substantial revenue to the government.
“The Jos Inland Dry Port is strategically located to serve both the host and neighbouring states in the North Central Zone,” he said.
He emphasised that the Plateau State Investment and Property Development Company acquired Jos Inland Dry Port from Duncan Maritime Services Ltd in 2022 and that with the new development, the new concessionaires and the state government would drive the project.
In his address, the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Murtfwang, described the launching of the inland dry port as a milestone considering the economic potential of the state.
The Chairman, Jos Inland Dry Port Resuscitation Committee, Isha Agwom Nyam called on the Federal Government to ensure rail connectivity to the facility for the movement of agricultural products.
