The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has warned shipowners, ship operators, masters of ships, boat operators and ship agents of danger posed to navigation by a tug boat and barge grounded at Escravos break waters in Warri, Delta State.
The apex maritime agency’s warning was contained in a Marine Notice it issued yesterday. NIMASA gave the position of the danger as Latitude 050 31’ 10.3”N and Longitude 0050 07’ 38.5”E.
“Extreme caution is advised while approaching the Escravos Breakwater. Pursuant to section 365 of the Merchant Shipping Act 2007, notice is hereby given to the owners of the wrecked tug-boat and barge to remove them within seven days from the date of this publication.
“Failure of the ship owners to remove the said vessels within the stipulated period will compel the Agency to take appropriate action in accordance with its statutory powers as Receiver of Wrecks in Nigeria Waters under the Merchant Shipping Act 2007”, the agency stated.
