The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and the Abade-Toru Manga Community Development Initiative have agreed to use Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) to resolve a matter brought before the House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions.
The committee was investigating a petition alleging that NIMASA failed to establish educational and skills acquisition projects in coastal communities as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
However, both parties agreed to seek a peaceful settlement through ADR when the matter was called up on Wednesday.
Chairman of the committee, Mike Etaba, commended NIMASA for seeking ADR, saying, “NIMASA’s team, led by Director Isichei Osamgbi, met with me before the sitting and agreed to resolve the matter through ADR. We encourage ADR, and if parties agree, they will proceed with it.”
Etaba expressed delight over the harmonious agreement, stating, “There’s nothing like harmony.”
George Wilcox Noah, Chairman of the Abade-Toru Manga Community Development Initiative, also expressed satisfaction with the resolution, saying, “We’re not at loggerheads with NIMASA. This agreement shows we’re willing to work together.”
Noah assured that the community and NIMASA would coexist peacefully, working to mitigate sea piracy in the Niger Delta region and the Gulf of Guinea.
