As the race for the Nigerian Shipowners Association (NISA) general election hot up, the Society of Nigerian Mariners (SNM), has endorsed the presidential aspiration of Engr. Greg Ogbeifun.
In a statement signed by the Chairman of the society, Capt. Cosmas Niagwan and made available to SHIPS & PORTS DAILY over the weekend, the society said it supported Ogbeifun because he is the most qualified among all the presidential candidates.
The statement reads in part, “To us, the Society of Nigerian Mariners (SNM), NISA forth coming election is an important and a bold step to build on the good works so far done by the pioneers and to commence a way for unlocking the potentials of the association. It is based on this perspective that we consider the election crucial and of great importance to the growth of the maritime transport sector of our national economy.
“The Society of Nigerian Mariners is keen on the principles of the Local Content Policy, the implementation of the Cabotage Law, our fair share of international carriage of goods, local ship repair and fittings, training and development of seafarers, security and safety of ships, good returns on investments and attractive friendly maritime environment.
“All these and many more can be achieved steadily by an appropriate helmsman of NISA. It is in the light of this desire that we suggest to all eligible voters at the election to consider favourably the candidature of Engr. Greg U. Ogbeifun.
“As a foremost shipowner who owns a ship repair yard, he is passionate even in business to practically implement local content and constantly providing industrial experience for cadets both onboard his ships as well as in the shipyard. He has served in various committees of the Ministry of Transport and its agencies.
The Society of Nigerian Mariners has no reservation whatsoever in recommending Engr. Greg Ogbeifun as your candidate to vote for as the President of your great association, the Nigeria Shipowners Association.”
