The Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria has been granted license by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) to train dockworkers in the country.
The license, which NITT obtained in December, 2013, is for a period of five years.
NITT Head of Corporate Affairs, Paul Mshelizah, said the training license was granted based on the institute’s active participation in the ILO train-the-trainer programmes and the suitability of its facilities and competent resource personnel to conduct the training programmes.
“ILO officials have equally accredited NITT training facilities in Zaria, Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt to serve as bases for training of port workers in Nigeria.
“By virtue of this new mandate by the ILO, the institute can now legitimately design and run port-workers related training programmes at its headquarters in Zaria as well as in each of its conference learning centres located in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt,” he said.
