The Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, has called for technical support and collaboration from the global shipping community as Nigeria finalizes its efforts to implement the National Single Window (NSW) project.
He made this appeal at the 2024 International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) conference held in Hamburg, Germany.
The conference, held from 8th to 10th October 2024, focused on the theme, “Managing Risk, Building Resilience, and Unlocking Opportunities at Ports,” and brought together global port leaders to discuss strategies for addressing modern challenges in port operations.
Dantsoho emphasised that Nigeria’s accelerated implementation of the NSW project aims to enhance port efficiency by reducing human interference in trade processes, a key factor in improving trade facilitation.
He highlighted the need for intensified international technical assistance to ensure the project meets global standards.
He also acknowledged the critical support of Nigeria’s Minister for Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, for ensuring the Nigerian Ports Authority successfully completed the essential phase of the Port Community System (PCS), which serves as a foundation for the NSW project.
At the same event, IAPH President Jens Meier urged ports to collaborate more closely to promote knowledge sharing, particularly in efforts to accelerate decarbonization.
