NPA SERVICOM C’ttee brainstorm on effective service delivery

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) SERVICOM Committee has held a three-day brainstorming session with a view to ensuring effective service delivery at the ports and in all areas of the organisation’s operations.
The meeting, held at Rockview Hotel in Abuja recently, had in attendance all 17 NPA SERVICOM Committee members; representative of the Senior Special Assistant to the President and National Coordinator SERVICOM, Mr. Sylbriks Obriki; the SERVICOM Ministerial Nodal Officer of the Federal Ministry of Transport, Mr. Sam Anako; and the out-going NPA SERVICOM Parastatal Nodal Officer, Mr. Nasir Anas Mohammed.
In his address at the meeting, the NPA SERVICOM Parastatal Nodal Officer said that the meeting was aimed at “reinvigorating members of the committee to the SERVICOM initiatives and ideals and explore its usage in driving service delivery”.

Mohammed stated: “SERVICOM, an acronym for Service Compact with all Nigerians was established in March 2004 as part of the Federal Government’s initiative to improve the quality of public service delivery in Nigeria.
“The Nigerian Ports Authority SERVICOM Unit in compliance with the directive of the Federal Ministry of Transport was inaugurated in December 2006 and is dedicated to ensuring the provision of services in a timely, fair, honest, effective and transparent manner. The SERVICOM Unit is committed to implementing the SERVICOM Service Charter which promises how customers can expect quality service delivery, demand their rights to good service and have a recourse when service delivery fails.”
The Senior Special Assistant to the President and National Coordinator of SERVICOM, represented by the Head of SERVICOM Institute, Mr. Jide Ode-Martins, while commending the management of NPA for its initiative in organising the brainstorming session, also commended the NPA SERVICOM unit for “doing things that the MDAs (Ministries, Departments and Agencies) are encouraged to do.”

He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to SERVICOM, demanding all MDAs to constitute individual management SERVICOM committees as directed by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
He urged the NPA SERVICOM Committee members to make a difference in their various locations in view of the enormity of the assignment before them.
The meeting is the last one under Mohammed’s leadership as the NPA SERVICOM Parastatal Nodal Officer, as he has been posted to take over from Mr. Joshua Asanga as the new Port Manager of the Lagos Port Complex (LPC), Apapa.
