A nursing mother and her baby lost their lives in a boat mishap at Gamadio village in Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The incident occurred when a boat carrying five passengers capsized.
The chairman of the local government, Christopher Sofore, who confirmed the incident, said the three other people were rescued.
Sofore spoke when a state delegation led by the state deputy governor, Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta, visited the local government council.
Farauta challenged relevant agencies to ensure the provision and enforcement of the use of life jackets by canoe users to minimise loss of lives.
She also urged stakeholders to always ensure timely reporting of such incidents to the police and other relevant authorities.
