The Federal Government’s initiative to boost trade through the establishment of Inland Dry Ports across Nigeria has gained significant momentum, following the official ceding of 130 hectares of land by the Ogun State Government to the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.
With this development, the Ministry is set to develop an inland port terminal in Ijebu-Ode to facilitate trade and ease the pressure on existing Western Ports.
Speaking during the official handover, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, Olufemi Oloruntola, who signed the transfer of rights, control, and possession on behalf of the Federal Government, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the timely completion of the project.
Representing Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, the State Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Gbenga Dairo, confirmed that the land allocation was made to support the Federal Government’s efforts to enhance trade logistics and connectivity within the Ijebu-Ode economic cluster.
According to Dairo, the project will improve intermodal transportation systems across the state and further decongest the seaports in Lagos.
The event was witnessed by key stakeholders including the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Dr Pius Akutah and representatives of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), among others.
