The Nigeria Customs Service, Port Harcourt Area 2 Command, Onne, Rivers State, has announced a revenue generation of N312 billion in the first half of the year, representing 50.5% of its annual target. Additionally, the command seized seven containers of drugs worth N11.2 billion.
Customs Area Controller Mohammed Babandede disclosed this during a press briefing in Onne, stating that the command has generated N48 billion in July alone, with five working days remaining in the month.
Babandede expressed concern over importers’ continued engagement in restricted drug trade and non-compliance with importation guidelines, despite warnings from the Comptroller-General of Customs.
The command has stepped up its security functions to address non-compliant trade activities, resulting in significant seizures, including 1,054,400 bottles of cough syrup codeine; 9,100 pieces of Chilly Cutter; 2,175,000 tablets of Hyergra and 1,300,000 tablets of Really Extra Diclofenac pain relief tablets.
These seizures, valued at N11.2 billion, will be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation.
The controller reiterated the command’s commitment to increasing revenue and protecting public health and safety.
