The Port Harcourt Area II Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Onne, has launched an indigenous technological innovation known as the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), also branded B’Ódogwu, aimed to automate its operations, enhance compliance, and optimise revenue collection.
Speaking at the launch, Comptroller Mohammed Babandede, Customs Area Controller, Port Harcourt II Command, stated:
“It is imperative for the Command to key into the Service’s efforts to fully automate its services to improve efficiency, enhance compliance and optimise revenue collection.”
The event witnessed the successful release of the first Single Goods Declaration (SGD) on the B’Ódogwu platform, recorded under reference number C1202505PN. This milestone, Babandede noted, is a testament to the Nigeria Customs Service’s progress under the leadership of Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.
“B’Ódogwu facilitates the efficient and timely clearance of goods,” he added, “thereby reducing delays and costs for businesses.”
Stakeholders and Customs officials present at the launch observed the seamless process, with many lauding the system’s speed and flexibility. Customs agent Mr Iroegbu Samuel, who participated in the inaugural transaction, praised the platform:
“From my experience, going through the process—from capturing to release—was very short and fast. People should not entertain any fear or doubt because it’s not far different from the NICIS II platform. However, it is more flexible.”
The Controller extended an open invitation to all stakeholders and the general public to adopt and explore the benefits of the B’Ódogwu system. He emphasised that this innovation is key to transforming Customs operations and fostering a more efficient trade environment across Nigeria.
As the B’Ódogwu system takes root in Onne, it signals a promising future for homegrown technological solutions in Nigeria’s Customs administration.
