Oyetola: I’m Not Contesting Osun Governorship Election

The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and former Governor of Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola, has stated that he will not be seeking the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket for the 2026 election in Osun State.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting held in Osogbo over the weekend, Oyetola urged all aspirants within the party to conduct their campaigns without hostility. He called for mutual respect among contenders and advised them to avoid smear campaigns, emphasising the importance of party unity ahead of the election.

Oyetola expressed confidence in the APC’s chances of regaining control of the state, citing increasing membership and support for the party as indicators of its continued relevance. He described the party as well-positioned to succeed in the next governorship election.

While addressing broader political developments, he said he believes President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 is not under threat, asserting that opposition coalitions lack the cohesion and credibility to pose a serious challenge.

He also dismissed concerns about the strength of rival alliances in Osun, stating that their foundation is politically unstable and unlikely to endure. According to him, the history and evolution of certain opposition groups demonstrate internal inconsistencies that undermine their viability.

Oyetola concluded by expressing support for all qualified APC aspirants, describing them as competent individuals capable of representing the party effectively. He reiterated the party’s commitment to complementing federal initiatives and returning to power in Osun.
