The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Ilorin Depot, on Thursday called for synergy with security agencies to tackle oil pipeline vandalism in the country.
The chairman of the association, Mr Abdulrasheed Olopade, made the call in an interview with newsmen in Ilorin.
Olopade said that cooperation between the association and security agencies would lead to greater success in the fight against the menace.
He urged the security agencies to synergise with the association’s private security guards that were recruited to mount surveillance on oil installations.
The IPMAN boss said there was the need to intensify the fight against pipeline vandalism, noting that it was having an adverse effect on the economy as well as the business of the association.
He assured that IPMAN would not rest on its oars in providing an enabling environment for the security personnel to reduce the impact of pipeline vandalism.
“The issue of vandalism has become a recurring decimal in the Ilorin depot.
“But the association thanks God that pipeline vandalism has reduced in Oke-Oyi area of Ilorin.
“In the last two and half months now, our lines have been reasonably free and we have started loading in Ilorin depot.
“We appeal to security agencies – the Police, the Civil Defence, the State Security Service – to support our security guards,” Olopade said
