Three men namely, Tunde Akanpo (33), Kwenu Adrel (24) and Tankoro Ngbeji (24) were on Monday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 15 kegs of diesel in Apapa.
Akanpo, Adrel and Ngbeji are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Ferdinand Asu, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on November 7, 2018 at about 8am at Atlas Cove, Apapa waterways.
“The defendants conspired together to steal 15 kegs of diesel,” Asu said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The Investigative Police Officer said the defendants could not provide proof of ownership of the diesel.
The first defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him but the other defendants didn’t understand the charges brought against them.
In his ruling, Magistrate M.O Olubi remanded the defendants in custody and adjourned the case till February 13, 2019 when the court would get an interpreter.
