Police commends NSC for vehicle donation

Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of Shippers' Council, Hassan Bello

The Marine Police has commended Nigerian Shippers Council for the donation of a Toyota Hilux patrol van to the command to boost operations at the ports.

Speaking with SHIPS & PORTS DAILY at the command’s headquarters in Obalende, Lagos, the public relations officer, Sadik Tunde said other agencies should emulate NSC’s gesture by assisting the police in the discharge of its duties.

‘It is a welcome development. The Nigerian Shippers’ Council donated a Toyota Hilux patrol van to aid our mobility. It has really helped and we are grateful.

“We’ll use this opportunity to encourage other stakeholders to do the same. Security should not be restricted to the police alone. Stakeholders should come together because security is a collective responsibility of all,” he said.

On the role of the maritime police, he said, “Apart from protecting lives and property and ensuring that there is law and order, the command has been able to curtail the nefarious activities of miscreants through our presence on water.

“In the past especially at Tin Can Island, smuggling used to be the order of the day but now with intense patrol of the marine police everywhere, it has drastically reduced.”
