Police arraign 7 men for robbery in Apapa


The police on Friday arraign seven men before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for robbery and possession of dangerous weapons in Apapa.

The men are Toheeb Adebukola (30), Adio Adam (23), Adebayo Qudus (20), Oparinde Lekan (18), Musa Bright (21), Damilare Omotayo (28) and Sodiq Jamiu (28).

They are facing a seven-count charge including conspiracy, robbery, possession of dangerous weapons, breach of peace, cultism and wilful damage.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Obongha, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on January 21, 2019 at about 9am at Akosile Street, Ojuna Moshalasi bus stop, Ijora-Badia, Apapa.

“The defendants conspired together with others at large to rob one Ibrahim Adedigba of N150,000.

They also damaged all the side glasses and windscreen of one Toyota Sequola Jeep which the value is not yet ascertained property of one Ibrahim Adedigba,” Obongha said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendants have in their possession dangerous weapons such as axe, knife, cutlass, three expanded cartridges with a view to attack members of the public.

Obongha added that the defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace. They also manage unlawful society.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 299(2), 297, 278, 329, 168(d), 56(b) and 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.

Magistrate K.A Ariyo granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case till February 25, 2019 for mention.
