A 55-year-old truck driver, Muhammed Umar, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing goods worth N5.5 million property of Joedone International Limited in Apapa.
Umar is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Iyobosa Onaiwu, told the court that the defendants committed the offences between August 5, 2018 and September 27, 2018 at about 5am at Okoduwa Street, Kirikiri Town, Apapa.
“The defendants conspired together with others at large to steal 119 bundles of expanded metal mesh valued at N1,910,400; 548 cartons of A4 copier paper valued at N3,288,000; 2 cartons of JD roy thinner and Tiger Fix valued at N17,000 properties of Joedone International Limited,” Onaiwu said.
The prosecutor also said that second defendant (Ifeanyichukwu) received the stolen items from Umaru.
According to her, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 287 and 328 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.
Magistrate O.S Abioye granted the defendants bail in the sum of N300,000 with two responsible sureties each in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate must be gainfully employed and furnish the court with evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case till February 11, 2019 for mention.
