Man docked for stealing N517,000 goods

A 31-year-old man, identified as Abdulrauf Bola, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing N517,000 worth of goods in Lagos.

Bola is facing a two-count charge of obtaining under false pretence and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in October 2015 at about 10am at Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos.

“The defendant obtained goods valued at N517,000 from Sam & Martha Investment Limited under the pretence to sell the goods and remit the said N517,000 to the Company, which he(Bola) knew to be false,” Aigbokhan said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendant stole the sum of N517,000 property of Sam & Martha Investment Limited.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 314(3) and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

Magistrate Oluwatope Olorunfemi granted him N200,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties are required to be gainfully employed and also furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

According to her, one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant.

She adjourned the case till July 29, 2019 for mention.
