Truck driver arraigned for stealing N227,000

A 31-year-old truck driver, Agenimo Fidelis, was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing N227,000 belonging to the truck owner. 

Fidelis is facing a one-count charge of stealing. 

The prosecutor, Inspector Iyobosa Onaiwu, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on November 1, 2019 at Apapa. 

“The defendant stole and converted the sum of N227,000 to his personal use property of one Mr Oboh Christopher,” Onaiwu said.

According to her, the offence is punishable under section 287(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him. 

Magistrate O.S Abioye granted him N50,000 bail with one surety in like sum. 

The surety is required to furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government. 

The surety must be a blood relative of the defendant. 

He adjourned the case till December 2, 2019 for mention.
